THE PRESENT PROGRESSIVE / CONTINUOUS (with a future meaning) (Thì Hiện tại tiếp diễn - với nghĩa tương lai)

Thì Hiện tại tiếp diễn được dùng diễn tả sự sắp xếp hay kế hoạch trong tương lai, thường có từ chỉ thời gian.

They're building a new school next year. (Năm tới họ sẽ xây một trường học mới.)

What are you doing this coming weekend? (Ngày cuối tới này, bạn làm gì)

B. BE GOING TO: được dùng diễn tả:

• Sự kiện đã được quyết đinh trước khi nói.

They’re going to repaint the school. (Họ sẽ sơn lại trường học.)

Her daughter is going to study information technology. (Con gái chị ấy sẽ học công nghệ thông tin.)

• Sự tiên đoán sự kiện chắc chắn xảy ra ờ tương lai vì có dấu hiệu hay chứng cứ ở hiện tại.

Tom's a good student. He's going to pass the final exam. (Tom là học sinh giỏi. Anh ấy sẽ đậu kỳ thi tốt nghiệp.)

• Sự kiện xảy ra ở tương lai gần

People are going to choose a new president. (Dân chúng sẽ chọn một chủ tịch mới.)

Chú ý: Thì Hiện tại đơn (Simple present) được dùng diễn tả sự kiện xảy ra trong tương lai theo thời khóa biểu.
